RESTAURANT REALLY HITS A HOME RUN

In how many good restaurants would you see this sign:

I know of only one - Tobacco Road in Durham,  NC.

Even though it calls itself a 'non sports bar', this is one place that you can watch an entire game - even if the TV is turned off - because it's basically built in left field of a ballpark.

Remember Kevin Costner's baseball film 'Bull Durham'? Well, there really is a triple A Durham Bulls team & TR abuts its stadium.

Sandy, her son Matt & Jackie enjoy a table with a 'diamond' view.

And not only can you catch all nine innings without needing a stadium ticket - you can enjoy one of the best meals you can have south of the Mason Dixon at VERY, VERY reasonable prices.

Besides 'close to gourmet' sandwiches & salads, you can dine on some unique entrees like Georgia Peach BBQ Chicken,  Sweet Potato Hash or Shrimp & Grits.

When this northern born boy saw Jumbo Black Eyed Pea Cakes on the menu....

...how could I resist? BTW, they were beyond delicious & - for under $9 - doubly delicious.

So, you may ask, why is such a fine restaurant with high quality food, low, low prices & a diamond view named 'Tobacco Road'?

The answer: it's directly opposite an ex-tobacco factory that is now a bar/restaurant/tourist area.

But your best value is back across the street where you can get a free ball game, a full meal & a couple drinks for under a twenty.

Just remember - at the sound of a cracking bat - be prepared to duck.
