SAILING THE BEAUTIFUL TOMS RIVER

Ok, it's not a trip down the Rhine, but if you're anywhere near Island Heights, NJ do whatever you can to find a sailboat & enjoy a late afternoon cruise on the beautiful Toms River.

Boat traffic is slight in September - after the busy Jersey Shore summer season - but the weather is still perfect. Many believe the sea views are equal (if not better) to what you might see in New England.

After a 3 hour tour, I have to agree with them.

We toured via a 36' Robin Hood owned by my good friend Rich Barnes.

Rich spends the late fall months captaining his True World Marine powerboat for 4 person snapper fishing charters (phone #: 732- 597-2598) & most summer weekends races catboats, but he really enjoys evenings under sail on the TR.

Even if you are more of a landlubber than sailor, Island Heights is filled with historic houses & buildings. For a map of a river front walk:

Whether you choose to visit by land or sea, try to be dock side at dusk. Here the sunsets are always spectacular.
