WHEN A DEAL ISN'T A DEAL

Why you need a travel consultant example #1:

Today I received this travel email:

FLORIDA--SEPTEMBER 12, 2011-- This morning, the cost of

oceanview cabins on two-night Bahamas cruises were slashed
to $89 per person exclusively for Travelzoo subscribers.
This is the lowest price we've seen on this cruise all year.

This deal on Celebration Cruise Line is available for
departures through Feb. 9, 2012 -- including weekends.
Competing cruise lines are charging as much as twice as much
on similar itineraries.

Sounds good, right? Fine, but if you read farther you'd find out that $89 really means $145.36 with taxes added. Still not bad. Now what do you actually get for your almost hundred & a half?

A check of Celebration's web site found this:

Our

Great, but what is an $89 'Coach Cabin'? And how does it differ from a $119 or $139 (before taxes of course) Full Sized Cabin?

We must dig deeper into Celebration's web site for the answer:

'Outside Coach cabins are 86 sq ft. They have a window and a small bathroom. These cabins have double beds and are best suited for single occupancy but can accommodate up to two guests.'

Read the above carefully. '86 sq ft'! That's like an 8 by 10 room. And...

'Best suited for single occupancy'!!! Boys & girls, that means it's for one person, but they'll gladly let you squeeze an extra person into this tiny space for a total of $290.72 (that's just short of $150 for each jammed in night. Ouch!)

This still might float your boat, but you could very easily miss all the facts of this travel  'squeeze play' (actual $ cost/size of room) if you didn't have a travel consultant to navigate through all the 'travel speak' advertisements & web sites.

BTW, a 'Full Cabin' on this ship is 144 sq. ft.

And also BTW, Sandy & I booked a 14 day trip to Rome (for ourselves) on Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas for $675.29 (including tax) each. That's $96.48 per night for the two of us for a full sized Royal Caribbean cabin.

Maybe that Bahama deal isn't one after all.
